Neostalgia, as a play on the word Nostalgia, has involved ‘looking back’ and recalling memory through space and place. For this, I focused on the beach, a place to relax and escape, to recall moments spent with family and friends. I have looked specifically at the shoreline, since this captures the in-between, where land meets sea, and where I also find myself now, contemplating past and future, in the present time. In the painting, each section has been structured to represent a time in my life, the sand being the past, unchanging, the sea being the future, unpredictable and constantly changing.
