To me Neostalgia is something from the past re-presented in the future. From the late 1990s to early 2000s I was a stereotypical Barbie obsessed girl who played with dolls and teddys. For my project I wanted to reinvent the toys that shaped me when I was a child. I chose sex toys as a way to represent the childhood toys that we enjoyed and that shaped us as children. Pleasure from a female perspective in all its forms is rarely openly discussed or even truly understood. Knowing and owning pleasure and sensuality can be life-changing. Often criticised or scandalised, sex toys encourage confidence and pleasure so this is something I wanted to celebrate.
